Have you always dreamed of making a quilted jacket but weren't sure where to start?

This retreat is designed to guide you through the entire process - from planning and preparing your quilted fabric to sewing a beautiful, one-of-a-kind jacket you'll be proud to wear home.

Whether you're creating your own quilted fabric, using a cherished quilt, or choosing a cheater print, Sharla will help you navigate every step of the journey.

Leave the cooking, chores, and distractions behind and spend a weekend focused on creativity, sewing, and connecting with fellow quilters.

Your Quilted Jacket Journey

Session 1 - Planning & Preparation

Before the retreat, you'll receive access to an informative video session covering everything you need to know to get started, including:

  • Choosing your jacket style and size (XXS-5XL)
  • Deciding whether to create your own quilted fabric top, use a quilt, or work with cheater fabric
  • Quilting options, including having Maple Leaf Quilting Company professionally quilt your quilt top or you quilt it yourself
  • Closure options such as buttons, zippers, frogs, and more
  • Fabric requirements and preparation tips

Session 2 - Personal Consultation

You'll meet one-on-one with Sharla to:

  • Determine your best jacket size using physical sample jackets
  • Discuss personalized design details and closure options
  • Review quilt top and fabric choices
  • Establish deadlines if you're having Maple Leaf Quilting Company quilt your jacket fabric
  • Receive recommendations to help ensure your project is a success

The excitement comes together at Frank Wills Hall!

You are welcome to arrive on Friday, September 25 from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM to set up your sewing space and get settled in. (Please note that instruction will not be provided during setup time.)

On Saturday at 9:00 AM, you'll receive your pattern and spend the day cutting, sewing, binding, fitting, and finishing your quilted jacket with guidance from Sharla throughout the process.

Sharla M.

Sewing/Quilting/Crafts Teacher

I’ve been a seamstress for 42 years and a quilter for 28—and yes, my favourite carry-on when I fly is my sewing machine! I started teaching sewing classes when I was just 18, and over the past 35+ years, I’ve taught more than 80 different classes to students of all ages and skill levels. In all those years, I’ve learned that sewing is about so much more than stitches—it's about confidence, creativity, and connection. My absolute favourite part of teaching is that moment when a student lights up and says, “I can’t believe I made this!” It never gets old. I believe with my whole heart that everyone is capable of creating something beautiful. My goal is to guide you gently, meet you where you are, and help you discover just how much you can do—with a little patience, some fabric, and a lot of encouragement.
